Ana Bernstein is a photographer and a theater and performance studies scholar. For the last twelve years she has been photographing New York City, especially the Lower East Side, documenting the profound transformation of the area, once known for its low rents and Bohemian artists. Before moving to New York in 1997, she worked in theater and film in Brazil. Her photographs have been exhibited in New York City and her series “Reflections” was recently published on the Swiss journal Variation. Her work as a photojournalist appears frequently in O Globo, one of Brazil’s principal newspapers.
