THE SERIES
"The Power To See Through The Transparency"
I worked on this series after noticing the special qualities of small water balls that are usually used to maintain humidity in plants. These balls are made from tiny crystal granules that act like sponges in holding water. Being clear crystal, they don't have any color of their own and the wonderful way in which they hold the water allows the water to in fact hold the crystal within its shape.
The reflective properties of the tiny drops captured my eye with the amazement of realizing the endless possibilities. Manipulating them drove me to start taking close up pictures of them.
This series has been a long process of going from one step to another attempting to capture the various characteristics of the balls. Water has always been a favorite subject for artists to explore nature and the transparencies. But it is often restricted to the container it is being held in. In nature water is confined within the banks of rivers and lakes. Once it is on its own, water spreads and travels as far as it can, providing reflection,
The fact that these tiny little balls of water held their own shape provides an added value of strength and power in my eyes. The little bits of crystal granule almost become submerged in water. And although I was the one to manipulate them in their surroundings--combining more and more balls, breaking them at my will--they controlled what they did and didn’t want to reflect. In their almost marble-like shape, they took on the world, allowing water to be just water, but in a three dimensional role.
I believe this is just the beginning for me in my quest to broaden my horizons as an artist, learning how to see our world with a different eye. As we rush through our life, I too hope that I can one day stand on my own and reflect my world and my life with the power and strength of these tiny water balls. I too hope to become larger than the world that holds me yet be able to reflect and be a part of it at the same time.
