BIOGRAPHY
The Bronx-born Ted Berkowitz won artistic acclaim from the U.S. Army and the Department of the Army in 1968, and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a BFA in 1972.
He married; went into the corporate world; created a management consulting firm; had a child; and did painting as a hobby.
Since 2004, he has devoted himself full-time to painting. His artistic influences have been: Kurosawa movies,The Grand Kabuki, and artists such as: Utamoro, Topolski, Tiepolo, Boldini, Anonymous, and life.
He has been published in The Daily Texan (10/08/71), Austin Magazine (3/72), House of Oxford Distribution (Spring '02), Westchester Center for Creative Aging (11/02), Videos of Poets (11/05) and "One Word/Many Voices" (5/09). DVD design for: "Word Riffs," and JazzJaunts.com for poet Golda Solomon. His work can be seen on various folk and jazz web galleries: Jazzjaunts.com, Openshoppe.org, Walkabout.com, Eddiedenise.com (images: 41-45), Anthonydacosta.com (see ART), Circleoffriends.com (pencil profiles), and in the MySpace pages of FredgillenJr, and Danlipsitz. He is the "Artist in Residence for "Po'Jazz" at the Cornelia Street Café in New York City.
He has won a number of awards including All Army Artist ('68). His paintings can be seen in various military museums: in The Pentagon, Fort Hood, TX, and Fort Gordon, GA, and in private collections from Brookville, NY to Boca Raton, FL.
His artwork has been shown at The Cornelia Street Art Café, NY. In Greenburgh at The Town Hall, and the Town Court, Andrus on the Hudson, Iona, and Berkeley College Art Centers in Westchester, NY; in the library galleries of Greenburgh, Harrison, Hendricj Hgudson, Mt. Pleasant, and Ossining. In Mamaroneck at The Town Court, The Mamaroneck Artist's murals, and faux marbling for the church.
